Some handy information before heading to Paradise
Leaving on vacation is always very exciting, and one tends not to consider certain facts. Wouldn’t it be annoying to arrive at your destination and being confronted with unforeseen situations, which could have been easily avoided, just by a quick research? Which kind of money, electricity, visa requirements, health issues, and what about your pet traveling with you? Dress code, do I have the right clothes for the weather conditions? Useful information, saving your precious vacation time once on the island.
Legal requirements: a valid passport (valid until 3 month after leaving the island) and a return or ongoing ticket. French citizens going though customs at the Princess Juliana international airport must possess a valid passport too, ID is good if entering via the regional airport ‘Esperance’. All visitors must fill out the immigration form. No vaccination needed.
Time difference from GMT: -4 hours, from New York: +1 hour during winter (end of October to end of March), from Europe: -5 hours in winter, -6 hours in summer (end of March to end of October)
Pets (dogs and cats) are allowed, they must be older than 3 month, have a passport, an up-to-date health declaration and vaccination record (rabies). Check with your airline for the flight reservation of your pet.
Official moneys are the NAF (Netherlands Antilles Florin) on the Dutch side, and Euro on the French side; both sides are accepting US Dollars. All major credit cards are accepted (accept American Express), and exchange booths are widely spread over the island.
The climate is excellent all year round, slightly more fresh during winter, and some showers and humidity during summer. The sea temperature never drops to less than 78 F
Don’t leave to St. Martin without your elegant and casual eveningwear! Your suitcase should contain as well beachwear, sports outfit, and something warm for cooler evening hours.
