St. Martin weather is perfect all year round.
As part of the Lesser Antilles, St. Martin offers a tropical climate. Very pleasant all year round, it allows travelers to make the most of their favorite activities; lounging on the beach, hiking, sailing, wind and kite surfing, and surfing. The temperature of the air and the sea alters very little over the year, but hurricane season, humidity, rainfall and trade winds can quickly change the temperature on the island, giving a real feeling of seasons.
Even though the temperature is quite stable, we consider there are two seasons: the dry season starts in December and ends in April, and the winter season, from May to November. Benefitting from the trade winds, St. Martin/ Sint Maarten does not really have a rainy season as such. Showers are fairly short; the intermediate annual rainfall does not in general surpass 45 inches.
The average temperature during dry season is 75 degrees Fahrenheit. It is the busiest period of the year in the Caribbean region. There is a slight dip in temperature in the morning and evening, and nights can get somewhat ‘fresh’.
From May to November, during winter season, the average temperature raises up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. A slight increase of rain is observed, but it is less marked than other islands further south. The high temperature of the air will raise the sea temperature, signaling the start of the hurricane season. It starts from June and will finish in November, with the highest forecast of hurricanes in the month of September. Humidity is higher at this time of the year. The trade winds are blowing at about 15 knots from mid-November to mid-April.
The last major hurricanes recorded on the island were Louis in 1995 and Jose in October 1999, followed by Lenny in November.
During the dry season the sun rises at 6 am and sets at 5h30 pm, in winter season the sun rises at 5 am and sets at 6h30 pm. The longest days are observed during the period April to September.
